The Fire Marshal is responsible for enforcing the local and state fire codes, fire inspections, fire investigations, fire prevention, and educating the public on fire safety. The majority of the Fire Marshals time is spent performing state required fire inspections. All fire inspections are done in accordance with the N.C. Fire Code.

Fire prevention and public education are done by request. Any training for the public can be scheduled through the Fire Marshal's Office. Available training includes, Fire extinguisher operation, Business and residential fire safety, Holiday safety, cooking safety and anything that the customer may request. All training is done free of charge.

Before starting a new business, it is recommended that business owners contact the Fire Marshal's Office and set up a courtesy " Walk through " of the building where the business will be. This will hopefully eliminate costly problems when the final fire inspection is done before the business can open.
