Senior Center Worker

Position Description:

Performs responsible unskilled work assisting the Sr. Center Special Events Coordinator in a variety of tasks. Tasks include but are not limited to opening and closing the facility for regular and scheduled events; mowing grass, trimming weeds and assisting with grounds maintenance and landscaping work; administrative tasks such as answering the telephone, taking messages, stuffing envelopes, etc.; custodial duties and set up and breakdown for activities, programs and special events.

Note: This position is considered temporary/part time and therefore there are no benefits assoicated with it.

Required Qualifications:Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Knowledge of the principles of public relations and customer service, standard office practices, procedures, equipment and office assistance techniques. Knowledge of operation of mower, weed eater, and other equipment
Special Qualifications:This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
Utility Service Worker I

Days/Hours:Monday–Friday Days, some weekend and overtime work
Position Description:Under general supervision, performs responsible unskilled and semi-skilled work in the installation, replacement, repair and maintenance of water and sewer lines. Work also includes making taps to water and sewer mains, installing hydrants, meters, and valves, reading meters, connecting and disconnecting utility service, and making repairs to the water and sewer system. Individual will work in both inside and outside environments, as well as in extreme hot and cold weather. Subject to on-call and call back work. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:Working knowledge of tools, materials and equipment used in the installation, replacement, maintenance, and repair of utility lines. Skill in the operation of light and medium size construction equipment. Must be able to physically perform very heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally; 50 pounds of force frequently; and 20 pounds of force constantly. Must possess the visual acuity to operate mobile equipment such as loaders and dump trucks in a safe manner, to fit pipes and other parts, read gauges, and make written records. Ability to read utility line maps, operation manuals, and service manuals, as well as the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Graduation from high school and experience in constructions-related utility work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Qualifications:Possession of a N.C. Driver's License. Certification by the State of NC in Water Distribution or ability to obtain within 6 months (based upon city and class schedule). Must pass pre-employment drug screenings.
